FLOP SHOT dominates 2019 Arc Sale

Buyers from all four corners of the world were present at the 2019 edition of The Arc Sale, with the final figures showing strong rises in comparison to last year. Of the 39 lots that went under the hammer, 25 were sold for an average of €252,000 (+40%) for a total turnover of €6,3 million (+23%).

FLOP SHOT the top price

The Wertheimer & Frère's eagerly awaited homebred FLOP SHOT (lot 21) was knocked down for €850,000 to Michel Zerolo (Oceanic Bloodstock), the top price at the sale. The three-year-old son of New Approach had not finished out of the first three this season, having notably won the Prix de Guiche (Gr.3) as well as finished third in the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano (Gr.2) and Prix Eugene Adam (Gr.2).

He will now run in the colours of the well-known American owner Peter Brant (White Birch Farm), who is represented by August Yearling Sale graduate SOTTSASS in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday.

CARTIEM for the Australian Bob Scarborough

Australian Bob Scarborough, the breeder of this year's 2,000 Guineas winner MAGNA GRECIA (under Woodnook Farm) went to €750,000 for three-year-old filly CARTIEM (lot 19) via telephone with Freddy Powell.

A recent third in the Prix de la Nonette (Gr.2) on her latest start, the Jean-Claude Rouget trained filly is entered in the Prix de l'Opera (Gr.1) tomorrow at ParisLongchamp.

CHARES goes to Hong Kong

Unbeaten in three starts, the Wild Card CHARES (lot 25) was subject to a lot of interest around the ring. It was however Dennis Loh with agent Emmanuel de Seroux that had the final say when buying the two-year-old Criterium du Lyon (L.) winner for €710,000.

"He'll first go into training in Newmarket before going to Hong Kong, but we don't know with which trainer yet," said Dennis Loh. "We are looking for very good horses for Hong Kong, and he ticked all the boxes. He's very good-looking and walks well - his latest win was very impressive."

A little later in the sale, de Seroux (Narvick International) also bought the black-type performer DAN (lot 38) for €250,000. The three-year-old colt, trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, recently finished runner up in the Prix Millkom (L.).
