446 Lots For Europe’s Premier Midwinter Sale
Comprising 164 fillies in/out of training, 46 broodmares, 175 colts/geldings in/out of training, 46 yearlings and 15 two-year-olds, the catalogue features high class consignments from many of the world’s leading owner breeders including Godolphin, Juddmonte Farms and Shadwell Estates, who have 59 lots catalogued between them.
The largest consignment is the team of 29 coming from The Castlebridge Consignment led by the Listed winning and Group placed four-year-old filly KEY TO MY HEART. The daughter of GALILEO is out of the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes winner A Z WARRIOR and realised 1,300,000 guineas at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale. The same team also offers SMOULDER, the 93 rated REDOUTE’S CHOICE half-sister to triple Group 1 winner LEGATISSIMO and POCKETFULLOFDREAMS, the Listed Lingfield Oaks Trial second who is a half-sister to the Group 2 Prix de Royallieu winner THE JULIET ROSE. Castlebridge also offers THETIS as the final part of the dispersal of Ballymacoll Stud. The Group 2 Rockfel Stakes second was unable to make the December Sale and will be offered in foal to LOPE DE VEGA.
Regally bred fillies from Juddmonte Farms are also always much sought after and their consignment includes PLAIT, a daughter of the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks winner QUIFF, FELLBECK, a sister to the Group winners WEIGHTLESS and MAIN AIM and SPRINKLING, a winner of her last start in France on the all-weather. The Newmarket nursery also offer two mares, NOVELLARA, dam of Group 3 winner DISCLAIMER in foal to BATED BREATH and CANADA WATER, a sister to Group 1 winner RAIL LINK, dam of the Group placed LAWMAKING in foal to SHOWCASING.
Old Buckenham Stud offers a small but select group of mares headed by ROSA DEL DUBAI, dam of the 2017 Italian Oaks winner FOLEGA and of two other Listed winners amongst her first five foals. She is offered carrying an OASIS DREAM full-sibling to FOLEGA. The stud also offers the Group placed SUNSEMPERCHI, dam of the Group winner FACIASCURA in foal to KINGMAN and the Listed winning FINIDAPREST in foal to CHARMING THOUGHT.
Colts and geldings in training make up almost half of the catalogue and one of the most exciting is the William Haggas trained three-year-old WILLIE JOHN. The three-year-old son of DANSILI won his only start at two impressively and is Timeform rated 87p. Out of the outstanding Group 1 winner IZZI TOP, WILLIE JOHN is entered in both the English and Irish Derbies.
Amongst the broodmares are those in foal to proven Group 1 sires
DARK ANGEL, IFFRAAJ, LOPE DE VEGA, NEW APPROACH, OASIS DREAM and SHOWCASING as well as exciting Group 1 winning young sires CHARMING THOUGHT, KINGMAN, MAKE BELIEVE, NEW BAY, OUTSTRIP, PRIDE OF DUBAI, TORONADO and WAR COMMAND.
Pinhookers also look well catered for, with yearlings by proven top class sires including FAST COMPANY, HAVANA GOLD, HELMET, IFFRAAJ, NAYEF, NEW APPROACH, PACO BOY, RAVEN’S PASS, SEPOY and SIR PERCY, as well as by first crop sires CABLE BAY, DUE DILIGENCE and GLENEAGLES.
Commenting on the 2018 Tattersalls February Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;
“The Tattersalls February Sale goes from strength to strength and this year’s catalogue has quality in abundance. The dams of last year’s Group 2 Railway Stakes winner BECKFORD and 2016 St Leger winner HARBOUR LAW were both purchased at the February Sale, and there is no shortage of high class breeding stock in this year’s catalogue. Additionally there are high class horses in training, two year olds and yearlings to appeal to the usual diverse mix of domestic and international buyers that have made the February Sale Europe’s undisputed leading midwinter sale.”
The February Sale will commence immediately after the TBA Stallion Parade which begins at 11am on Thursday 1st February and the sale will start at 10am on Friday 2nd February.
