Bated Breath Colt Tops Opening Day of October Book 3

The opening day of Book 3 of the October Yearling Sale continued from where Book 2 finished with strong trade that saw a colt by BATED BREATH top the sale at 85,000 guineas. A total of 249 lots sold for 5,256,550 guineas and the average and median were 21,111 guineas and 17,000 guineas respectively. The clearance rate was 81%.

Leading the way on the opening day of Book 3 of the October Yearling Sale was a son of BATED BREATH out of the winning GALILEO mare SKY CRYSTAL that made 85,000 guineas when knocked down to Joe Foley on behalf of Clipper Logistics.

Offered by The Castlebridge Consignment, the bay colt is a half brother to the Listed-placed PELLUCID and from the family of Group 1 Fillies’ Mile Stakes winner CRYSTAL MUSIC.

After the sale Foley commented;

"He is by a sire we like, and he is a very nice colt with good movement. He is out of a young Galileo mare with a deep pedigree and she has already been successful."

The colt was bred by the El Catorce Partnership, a British breeding arm of the international Peruvian-born footballer Claudio Pizarro, who is based in Germany and managed by Adam Driver who explained:

"Claudio has a stud farm in Peru and he has always had a few racehorses in Britain. This British stud farm is quite a young operation, we have around five mares, and we are thrilled with this price.

"We were happy to keep the colt to a certain level, but the farm is to be run on a commercial basis and we were happy with the result."

Popular first season sire SEA THE MOON was responsible for the second highest priced lot of the day when his son out of winning GREEN DESERT mare DIABLERETTE was bought by Anthony Stroud of Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 80,000 guineas.

DIABLERETTE is the dam of three winners and a half sister to German Group 1 winner LADY JANE DIGBY as well as multiple Group 3 winner GATEMAN.

Britton House Stud consigned the colt who represented a good pinhooking result for his prior owners who bought him as a foal for 25,000 guineas.

Stroud commented;

"He is a lovely horse, very athletic, light on his feet, a big, scopey sort who will be a longer term prospect. I've liked the Sea The Moons too."

Just six lots into proceedings on the opening day of Book 3 a FARRH colt out of the KINGMAMBO mare ISLAND BABE became an early highlight when selling to Stroud Coleman Bloodstock for 75,000 guineas.

The bay colt was consigned by Voute Sales Ltd and is a half brother to three winners, from the family of this year’s Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary winner SOBETSU.

Darley’s first crop sire FARRH is the sire of last year’s Book 3 graduate WELLS FARRH GO, winner of the Group 3 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes and entered in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy.

Ballyhimikin Stud consigned the second lot of the day to achieve 75,000 guineas; a CAPE CROSS colt bought by French trainer Jean-Claude Rouget’s Royal Amber Bloodstsock.

The brown colt is out of DUBAI DESITINATION mare SEASONS, a daughter of Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner SILENT HONOR, herself a sister to Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes winner SILKWOOD.

Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale continues at 9.30am on Friday, October 13.
