The catalogue for Book 1 of the 2017 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, which takes place Tuesday 3rd October - Thursday 5th October, is now online and can be viewed at www.tattersalls.com. Europe's premier yearling sale numbers 502 lots, all of which are eligible for the £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus scheme.

The flagship Tattersalls sale has attracted a truly outstanding collection of the finest yearlings to be found anywhere in the world, including 30 yearlings by DUBAWI, 21 by GALILEO and 14 yearlings from the third crop of the peerless Champion racehorse FRANKEL.

In addition, the catalogue features own or half brothers and sisters to 41 Group 1 and Classic winners and a massive 273 Group/Listed winners. Amongst the siblings to Classic and Group 1 winners are own or half brothers to 2016 and 2017 stars GALILEO GOLD, HIGHLAND REEL, ORDER OF ST GEORGE, POSTPONED, SPEEDY BOARDING, THE TIN MAN and WALDGEIST as well as AUTHORIZED, CURSORY GLANCE, DAN EXCEL, FALLEN FOR YOU, INTEGRAL, MAIN SEQUENCE, RIDASIYNA, STAR OF SEVILLE and THE WOW SIGNAL. Amongst a host of beautifully bred fillies are own or half sisters to Classic and Group 1 winners AKEED MOFEED, HALFWAY TO HEAVEN, HARTNELL, LARAGH, LILLIE LANGTRY,MATERIALITY, SARAH LYNX and TALENT as well as to this year’s Irish Derby winner CAPRI and current 2018 Derby favourite THE PENTAGON.

An impressive 30 Group 1 and Classic winning mares have yearlings catalogued including colt first foals out of SKY LANTERN and AMBIVALENT, both by DUBAWI and the DANSILI colt out of SULTANINA. Amongst the fillies out of Classic and Group 1 winners are first foals by GALILEO out of DANK, by DUBAWI out of SEAL OF APPROVAL and by WAR FRONT out of SPRING IN THE AIR, while the great racemares ALBANOVA, ATTRACTION, CASUAL LOOK, DANEDREAM, FINSCEAL BEO, ISLINGTON, IZZI TOP and QUEEN’S LOGIC all also have yearlings catalogued.

All of the current top 20 active sires standing in Britain and Ireland are well represented with the current top four GALILEO, DARK ANGEL, DUBAWI and KODIAC having exactly 101 yearlings catalogued between them. Amongst the 21 yearlings by eight-time Champion sire GALILEO are the own-brothers to the Group 1 winners HIGHLAND REEL and JOHANNES VERMEER as well as the own-sister to Irish Derby hero CAPRI.

Numerically, DUBAWI, the sire of last year’s 2.6 million guineas co - sale toppers, leads the way with his 30 yearlings. In addition to the first foals out of AMBIVALENT, SEAL OF APPROVAL and SKY LANTERN, DUBAWI has own or half brothers/sisters to Group 1 winners AKEED MOFEED, CURSORY GLANCE, LARAGH, MAIN SEQUENCE and POSTPONED, as well as daughters of Group and Listed winning mares GALVAUN, GIANTS PLAY, PONGEE, SILK SARI and SOON.

In total the top 20 active sires have 258 yearlings catalogued between them with the current top 10 accounting for a massive 175 yearlings. Top 10 sires DARK ANGEL and SEA THE STARS have 29 apiece, KODIAC and INVINCIBLE SPIRIT have 21 and 20 respectively, IFFRAAJ has 17 catalogued, while ACCLAMATION, NATHANIEL and POUR MOI, sire of Derby winner WINGS OF EAGLES, have three, four and one respectively.

FRANKEL’s 14 yearlings also look set to command plenty of international attention and include the half sisters to 2013 Oaks winner TALENT, Canadian International winner SARAH LYNX, 2013 German Oaks winner PENELOPA, Group 1 winning sprinter TOTAL GALLERY and the half sister to multiple Australian Group 1 winner HARTNELL.

Devotees of first crop yearling sires will also be spoilt for choice with 11 freshmen represented by a total of 93 yearlings led by the Champion duo of outstanding Derby winner AUSTRALIA and superstar miler KINGMAN who have 20 and 25 yearlings catalogued respectively. Al Shaqab’s star miler TORONADO has 10 from his first crop, multiple Group 1 winning sprinter SLADE POWER has nine, while the Group 1 winners CHARM SPIRIT, GARSWOOD, NO NAY NEVER, NOBLE MISSION, OLYMPIC GLORY and SEA THE MOON are also well represented.

Overseas based sires traditionally play a prominent role at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale and proven Group/Grade 1 USA based sires DISTORTED HUMOR, EXCHANGE RATE, HARD SPUN, KITTEN’S JOY, MEDAGLIA D’ORO, QUALITY ROAD, SCAT DADDY, SMART STRIKE and WAR FRONT all feature prominently alongside top French - based sires DABIRSIM, KENDARGENT, LE HAVRE and SIYOUNI.

The largest consignment comes from Highclere Stud with 35 yearlings, whilst The Castlebridge Consignment comes next with 32 yearlings. Following closely is Newsells Park Stud with a team of 24 yearlings, while last year’s co - sale topping consignors Meon Valley Stud and Norris Bloodstock have 12 and six respectively. Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale also features five yearlings from the eagerly anticipated Ballymacoll Stud Dispersal at Tattersalls. The quintet, comprising fillies by EXCEED AND EXCEL, KINGMAN, OASIS DREAM and SEA THE STARS and a colt by SHAMARDAL, will be consigned from Corduff Stud and will sell as lots 167 - 171 at the end of day 1, Tuesday 3rd October.

Commenting on the catalogue for Book 1 of the 2017 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said:

“We felt that last year’s October Book 1 was a bit special, but the 2017 renewal looks to have raised the bar again. There are a huge number of own or half brothers and sisters to Group and Listed winners in the catalogue, but equally impressive is that nearly 150 of the 502 yearlings are out of Group and Listed winning mares, including many of the truly outstanding racemares of our time, and a further 64 are out of Group and Listed placed mares. An extra dimension is also added by the five beautifully bred yearlings which are part of the once in a generation Ballymacoll Dispersal at Tattersalls, and of course the enormously popular £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus will again ensure that buyers have the chance of winning unprecedented prize money by purchasing at Europe’s premier yearling sale.“
