February mixed Sale: turnover up by 74%

The Arqana mixed February sale, which was returning to Deauville after a two year redevelopment project, achieved a turnover of EUR1,702,500. One noteworthy aspect of the sale was that the percentage of horses sold was 78.16, proof of a very sustained and active market. The median was EUR7,978.

The sale attracted a large array of foreign buyers, most notably from Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Denmark, Tunisia and Libya, as well as Morocco, Qatar and India.

The sale of 11 horses forming part of Mrs Sylvia Wildenstein's dispersal proved the highlight of this first session of 2012. All 11 lots were from the talented 'N' family tracing back to the foundation mare NEOMENIE and all found new homes for a total of EUR413,500.

- NICKELLE (lot S4), a daughter of the Prix Alain du Breil (Gr.1) winner N'AVOUE JAMAIS (sold for EUR48,000 to Eclipse Bloodstock), was the subject of numerous bids, eventually becoming the day's top lot with a final offer of EUR85,000. Just as talented on the flat as she was over jumps (3rd Prix Allez France (Gr.3) and a Listed winner both on the flat and over jumps) this mare was knocked down to Thierry Delegue on behalf of the agency YES (Your Equine Solution) and will remain at stud in France.

- NEW SAGA (lot S3), achieved the second highest price of the day with a bid of EUR70,000 from Meridian International. This daughter of Sagamix, Listed placed at Auteuil, is no less than a half-sister to the champions NO RISK AT ALL, N'AVOUE JAMAIS, NICKNAME and NOM D'UNE PIPE. She will also continue her broodmare career in France.

- The English agent James Delahooke was particularly keen to invest in this family and secured two lots for an English client: NEW DESTINY (lot S2), a half-sister to NEW SAGA by Highest Honor for EUR65,000, as well as NATSUKE (lot S8), the first foal out of NICKELLE by Chichicastenango for EUR55.000. Both these purchases will also stay in France.

Among the lots from the rest of the catalogue, the following stood out:

- Lot 196, STELLAVERA, an unraced three year old filly out of training by Anabaa, was bought for EUR62,000 by Horse France. She is from a high class German family, being a half sister to the German Group 3 winner PELIGROSO and to Provocador, second in a German Listed race. Consigned by the Haras de Saint-Arnoult, she will now go to Ireland.

? Two lots which were then the object of some enthusiastic bidding were both presented by La Motteraye Consignment. The first of these was lot 83, SUPER MOTIVA, a dual Listed winner in Italy, sold to the English agent David Redvers in foal to Dylan Thomas for EUR51,000. The next was lot 49, ARDERE, bought by Broadhurst Agency (Laurent Benoit) for EUR45,000. In foal to the young Aga Khan stallion Siyouni, this daughter of El Prado is already the dam of STEFER (Prix Miesque, Gr.3).

- FIPS agency bought lot 250, GOLDEN GLEAM, for EUR62,000. This three year old filly consigned by Robert Collet is a daughter of the excellent Acclamation and Traou Mad, Listed winner and placed several times at Gr.3 level.

Concluding on the day's sale ARQANA president Eric Hoyeau commented: "The good National Hunt families, such as that of N'omenie, always draw the interest of breeders passionate about jumps, be they French, English or Irish. Mrs Sylvia Wildenstein's dispersal added momentum to the sale for which the percentage sold was 78.16, almost 11% up on 2011. These factors all point towards the February sale meeting its targets."
